ColorForms: 1996 - 2000
Koko approaches this series, ColorForms, embracing a mix
of cultures and with a deep interest in composition and
form. Her intercultural perspective and acute design
sensibility meet intense color-her primary means of
expression--to produce the striking, multimedia works seen
here. Although Elkayam has executed paintings in the more
conventional media of oil or gouache, her practice also
includes such varied techniques as brightly colored vinyl
[kitchen placemats] collaged on stretched vinyl and digital
prints on canvas. This movement between traditional and
non-traditional processes is paralleled by her subject matter,
which deals with both biographical themes and subjects that
directly confront the manner in which cultures are mixing
and clashing in our contemporary society.
